Combi Boiler

A combi boiler controls both your central heating and hot water making it a popular choice when it comes to a boiler installation.

  • Compact in size - There’s no need for a hot water tank so it fits in every home and is easy to install.
  • Highly efficient - They are very efficient which makes the combi boiler an affordable way to heat every home.
  • On demand hot water - There’s no need to wait for water to heat up, it’s instant.
  • Cost effective - Only what is needed is used, saving money from heating large amounts of water that just sits there.

Warranty Protecition

All of the components for your heating and hot water system are in the boiler case and therefore under a long guarantee. A traditional system

with hot water storage tanks etc has external controls that can become faulty and cost money to replace. A new combi boiler eliminates that.

System Boiler

A System boiler is similar to a traditional regular/heat only boiler as it provides the heat directly to the central heating system and also heats the hot water that is stored in a hot water cylinder.

The main difference between the two is that a system boiler works on a sealed system, like a combi boiler, and so the heating system is fed from the cold water mains, meaning there is no need for header tanks in the loft. System boilers are generally connected to an unvented hot water cylinder . These cylinders can supply hot water at mains pressure and provides a great solution for larger properties that are likely to have more than one shower running at any one time as the pressure is usually high enough to meet the demand.

  • Handles high demand for hot water - The tank can store large amounts of hot water which allows for simultaneous use in a home
  • Eco friendly - It’s quick to heat the property and the water pump allows for very quick water distribution to the radiators.
  • Can be used in conjunction with solar panels - After installation, the cylinders can be heated through solar panels.
  • Good water pressure - System boilers use the mains water supply when distributing water which improves the pressure.
  • Space saving - Only a water cylinder is needed giving some much needed loft space back.

Conventional Boilers

Also known as heat only or regular boilers. This is the traditional boiler setup we find in many homes.

This kind of system is open vented and contains a boiler, hot water cylinder and tanks. The header tanks fill your heating system and hot water cylinder.

With these systems, the boiler has minimal controls included as the system is controlled by an external pump and motorised valves. Nowadays, these are generally converted to a sealed system i.e. combi or system boiler. Converting this kind of system means that these external controls are now inside the boiler and therefore covered by a manufacturer’s warranty.

Converting from this kind of system is beneficial because faults often develop on these controls and if they are inside the boiler, they are covered by the manufacturer’s warranty.

  • Extremely effective - It can heat up large amounts of water to cover the heating and demand for hot water.
  • Have hot water from multiple taps - Meet the demand of a multi bathroom property by having the ability to use multiple taps at the same time.
  • Suitable for low water pressure - If you live in a low water pressure area, a conventional boiler may be the best solution for your home.
  • Great for older properties - If you live in an older property replacing the same type of system is easier from an installation perspective.

Unvented Cylinder Installation

Many homes have a combi boiler and this is the most suitable solution for their requirements. However, in homes with 10 radiators or more and 2 or more bathrooms the demand for hot water is likely to be high. An additional hot water cylinder to heat and store a larger volume of water is needed.

What is an unvented cylinder?

An unvented cylinder takes its water supply straight from the mains, so there is no need for the water tank in the attic or loft, saving a lot of space.

The water is taken from the cold mains which delivers a higher water pressure and a more reliable flow of water.
